MORE ABOUT THE FILM
Finding José is a bilingual road trip comedy-drama that follows three siblings—Maggy, Kevin, and Lupita—after the death of their father reveals a secret that reshapes everything they thought they knew about their family. While preparing for a traditional family gathering, they discover the existence of a half-brother, José, a man their father kept hidden for years. Driven by equal parts curiosity, frustration, and a desire for closure, the siblings set out on a journey to Mexico to find him, carrying with them their father’s ashes and a letter that was never delivered. What begins as a straightforward mission quickly unravels into something far more complicated.
As they travel through unfamiliar cities, reconnect with extended family, and immerse themselves in the culture they left behind, tensions rise. Old wounds resurface, personalities clash, and each sibling is forced to confront their own identity, grief, and relationship to their roots. Along the way, they encounter unexpected friendships, moments of humor, and glimpses of a version of their family history they were never fully told. Through chaotic detours, emotional confrontations, and fleeting moments of connection, the journey becomes less about finding José—and more about understanding their father, each other, and themselves.
Blending humor with emotional depth, Finding José is a story about family, loss, and the search for belonging—exploring what it means to return to a place that feels both foreign and deeply familiar.
