Why Brands Should Care About Movies

One thing I've learned while making Finding Jose is that movies aren't just stories, they're one of the most powerful marketing tools in the world. Think about it... How many brands can you name from your favorite movies? Maybe it's the car James Bond drives. The sneakers from Sandlot. The candy from E.T.. The sunglasses from Top Gun. Chances are, you remember them without even trying. That's because when a brand is naturally part of a story, it doesn't feel like an ad. It feels like part of the world. People don't usually skip movies the way they skip commercials.
They don't scroll past them. They spend an hour and a half or even two hours immersed in a story, building an emotional connection with the characters. When a product fits organically into that world, audiences remember it. As independent filmmakers, we don't have hundred-million-dollar marketing budgets. Brand partnerships help us make better films while giving companies a unique way to reach audiences through storytelling. For Finding Jose, we're looking for brands that genuinely fit our world. We don't want to force products into scenes just because someone paid us. We want partnerships that feel authentic—brands that make sense for the characters, the culture, and the journey.
That's one of the reasons we're so excited to be working with Silva Espadas as our first official brand partner. It wasn't just about making a T-shirt. It was about partnering with a company whose identity aligns with the story we're telling. As we continue making this film, I'm excited to share more about how these partnerships happen behind the scenes. It's one of those parts of filmmaking people don't usually get to see but it's essential for getting independent films made.
And who knows? Maybe your favorite brand will end up joining us on the road.
See you in the next vlog.
